Already forgotten

This is a link to all the people that lost their lives on September 11, 2001.  Many of these have pictures with them.  You can see their faces, how old they were, where they worked and where they lived.

Take this name for example.  She was an 11 year old girl.  She was on one of the planes.  (I picked randomly.)

Or this person whom you can hear making a 911 call for help.

How about this 32 year old woman?  Here is a recording of her call for help.

Over 3000 people have lost their lives.  More are sick and dying from breathing in the debris from these attacks.  "Never forget" seems to be a token saying now.  People have forgotten or just don't seem to care.  9 years is not that long ago.  We can't change what happened, but we can learn from it.  It just seems as though this country is choosing to not learn from it.

I'm not sure I'd agree that people have forgotten or don't care. If that were the case, there would not be such an outcry against the mosque at ground 0, or so many tributes to 9/11 every year at this time. We are forced to relive it every year whether we want to or not. It was a tragedy but some people are letting it define their lives and that, I think, is wrong. I DO think that some have not learned from it.

9/11 cost me a lot, personally, even though I was not near a crash site and knew no one that was killed. It affected the economy and disrupted many things. I don't think anyone has forgotten, and there is bound to be disagreement about what the "lessons" should be. But, most of us cannot maintain the intensity of grief and helplessness we all felt nine years ago. Healing is natural. We don't forget when a loved one dies, and it changes us permanently, but it doesn't "show" all the time.
