Still no babies

There are still no babies. We are checking multiple times a day now. Yes, I am paranoid.
.
Husband and K are going to Arkansas and won't be back until Saturday. Due to having to travel through Illinois, he is not taking the handgun. He is, however, making sure I know where it is should I need it. T will be staying with me during this time. The boys will be going with Husband and K leaving the girls here.
.
I was told I was nuts because of an encounter at Aldi's yesterday. I was in the check-out and there was a mom with her son (looked to be about 3) in front of me. He was quite the adorable little chatter-box. We inch our way forward and she gets to her turn. Her stuff is run through and as she is getting ready to write out a check, she gets told by the cashier that they don't accept checks. Unperturbed, she says "Ok, I'll just put it on my credit card." The cashier replies with "Cash, debit, or EBT." Her credit card is not a debit card and she has no cash on her.
.
Feeling her frustration, I step forward and ask "How much?" If it was over $100, I would not have been able to help. I was told the amount (just over $50) and swiped my debit card. She wrote a check out to me in the amount feeling obvious relief. I've been there before. Some places don't accept my debit card because it's through a credit union (I don't understand it myself) and have had to leave my groceries while trying to find an ATM only to come back and find out that they did not in fact put my cart aside like they said they would, but actually put all the stuff back on the shelves.
.
I go to the credit union to deposit the check and figure that even if, at worse, the check does not clear (and I prefer to think the best of people until proven otherwise) then the mom has food for her family on me. I see no bad in the situation.

That was really nice of you! I've had people do that for me back when I managed my money terribly and sometimes my debit card wouldn't go through. Both times it happened it for under $20 and people stepped in right away. I always made sure to pay it forward by helping someone else because I think little things like that really do touch a person and stay with them for a long time.

I don't think you're nuts, I think you did the right thing! Of course, a lot of people think I'm nuts, so there you go.
