Had a wonderful dinner tonight at R's place.  She made chicken burritos and got a fire going which encouraged toasted marshmallows for the children.  The children have been doing work for R to work off them stealing a jar of marshmallow fluff.  They got into her stuff, found the unopened fluff, and helped themselves.  So, they are learning a lesson.  This is reinforcing the lecture that they received.

We are culling our goats down to three and will be rebuilding with a fresh herd.  The three that we are keeping are the strongest and healthiest.  The rest are just going.  This includes all the young kids.  It seems that there is a respiratory problem that got into the herd that has been passed down.  The three yearlings seem immune, but the rest all have it.  So, we are destroying the line before it has a chance to continue.  This is not an easy decision, but a necessary one.

I went to the laundromat today and did a couple of loads of laundry.  I forgot the bedding.  Anyway, the new pump we got burned out so I couldn't fill the washing machine and laundry needed done.  So I went and took Hannah with me.  She slept all the way there, slept through the laundry being washed, and slept till we got to the hardware store.  I woke her up to go in.  When we got back out to the van, she said "Are we going to the laundromat now?"  When I told her I had already been and she slept through it, she said "Oh" and promptly fell back to sleep.

Once we got home I hung the laundry to dry since it seems to have stopped raining.  Yes, it rained today.  Wonderful, sweet, beautiful rain.  I was talking with someone at the laundromat who was saying that there were a lot of lightening strikes in Springfield.  That is what worries me and why we are doing the burning.  One lightening strike and with how dry everything had been, the forest would have been engulfed in flames.  So yes, there is a reason behind the insanity.  We are working a perimeter about 100 - 200 feet out all the way around.  We aren't going to do a slash and burn on the full 80 acres.  THAT would be insanity.

Anyway, tomorrow, I am filling in for someone for farmer's market.  After that, I will be working on packing for our trip back to Indiana.  I am planning on Thursday for a get together for everyone who can make it at K-mart.  The children can play and the adults can hang out.  I'm going to have it at 2:00 so it is not a meal time.  That way people don't have to feel bad if they can't get anything.  They can still hang out while their children play and I can still see them.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone.
