102.5

That is the fever that Hannah is running.  She was fine all day and even went to the lake and played in the water.  Then she started wilting.  We figured she was just tired.  Then, I went to change her into dry clothes and her skin felt like it was on fire.  I tried to track down the thermometer, but couldn't so I had Husband help and he was able to find it.  When I saw the number, I said "Well, that explains why she was deciding to lay down rather than eat.  She is sleeping right now and is going to sleep in bed with me as per usual when a child is sick.  (I like them close when they are sick.  Especially during the night where I can monitor them better.)

On a happier note, we found a couple of life jackets for the girls at a yard sale today.  One is a Barbie vest (yes, Barbie so just shoot me now and get it over with) and the other is a swim suit with a floatation device built in.  I am going to sew a skirt and sleeves on it.  For today, Hannah wore a long shirt dress over it.  Both girls had a blast when they figured out they could "float out over their heads."  Now, we just need one for Charlie.  With these, it will be easier to teach them to swim because they can float into "swim position" to get the movements down and learn how to tread water while still staying above water.

With these, we can start going out in the boat.  It is something we have not been able to do for a couple of years now.  Here we have this little aluminum fishing boat that has been passed down for three generations and is financially worth nothing, but sentimentally worth a million bucks and will be passed down to Charlie when the time comes and we haven't been able to enjoy it.  Now, we will.

The next question I have is how do you deal with a child who is afraid of the dark?  Bethany is fine in the dark.  Hannah is fine in the dark.  Charlie is afraid and starts crying because he wants a flashlight.  I don't want to discount fears, but give me a break.  This is getting ridiculous.  It isn't even dark yet.  He has his flashlight for now, but he needs to get over this.  I am not insensitive, but I am getting sick of it.  He has worn down several flashlights now and we are running out of batteries.  Maybe we'll find him one of those shaker flashlights.  The lights on those don't last for squat, but it will be his.  "You want light, shake the thing."

Did I mention I am tired and cranky and I have a sick baby and when I have a baby that is sick, I don't deal well with another child's whine?  Does that make me a bad mom?

I hope Miss Hannah feels better soon. Great score on teh life jackets. And no advice for the afraid of the dark thing other than I was terrified of the dark when I was around Charlie's age. My parents would keep the hallway light on for me and that helped (I know that's not an option for you) On the bright side, I did outgrow it and now sleep better when it is completely dark.

MK still refused to sleep in the dark. I don't like the dark either. I don't have good night vision and the dark just throws a person's perception off. He may outgrow his fear, over time, but, it is a normal thing -- even for boys. In the meantime, hope for a full moon and bright stars to light his way.

The fear of the dark thing I know is not going to go away anytime soon. I just have to be patient and get creative.

Wyatt - Thank you. We both appreciate it.

Is it possible something in the water is causing them to get sick and have fevers? Have you had the water there tested for ecoli? I know you filter and whatnot to drink it, but if kids are playing in it, etc. they could easily be ingesting it during play.
