ER Visit

All three children are going to the ER.  It started with Hannah and the other two following closely behind.  Hannah spiked a fever which is something that she likes to do on occasion.  Husband did the same thing when he was a child.

Then she started complaining of her "belly button hurting."  Charlie started complaining of the same thing.  Both of them are just miserable looking and spiraling down.  I gave Hannah some children's ibuprofen and two hours later her auxiliary temp is 103.5.  The fever is not coming down even after medication and she is feeling worse.  Time to go.  So, we have packed them all up and they are all going to be seen.  They all have fevers, have all been sleeping and cranky today, and are all following the same pattern.

In other news, I got an e-mail (and was asked to pass this along) about a mom who was asked to leave Turkey Run State Park swimming pool today because she was breastfeeding.  The lifeguard (who made claims to being a manager) called it public indecency.

When informed of state law, he didn't care and wanted her to leave anyway.  She stayed.

Not withstanding any other law, a woman may breastfeed her child anywhere the woman has a right to be. Source: Indiana Code 16-35-6-1 Chapter 6, Sec. 7

I suggested filing a formal complaint with DNR and with the various managers at the park itself along with writing a letter to the editor of the local newspaper and have a nurse-in.

It is illegal to ask a nursing mom to leave or cover up in the state of Indiana or any other state that has laws protecting nursing moms.  And calling a mom feeding her baby "public indecency" is in itself indecent.  I've had people try to tell me to leave or take my nursing infant to the bathroom to feed her and I had steam coming out of my ears over it.

When will people realize that they are just breasts?  There is nothing special about them.  They are being used for their primary purpose.  Feeding a baby.  Yes, they can be fun with other marital privilege activities, but so is kissing.  Yet, mouths are also used to eat.

Anyway, I have to go.  We're pulling into the hospital parking lot.

Ahh, the vestiges of a society founded by the Puritans. *sigh* So pathetic that a basic biological function that ensured the survival of the species of Homo Sapien is seen as a dirty bad thing.

Also why women are forced to cover up in Muslim countries. Because men can't control their baser instincts. So much for being evolved and intelligent.

But that's enough of my soapbox.

Im sorry, but would you like for your children to see boobs hanging out just because someone doesnt want to cover with a towel of blanket because they are feeding? I have to say I agree with the life guard in this situation... I agree with breast feeding, but dont just flop your boobs out because you are feeding... is it too much to ask to cover it up?

Yes it is too much to ask someone to cover up. Most nursing mothers are very modest and careful when latching on an infant to show very little skin.
My feeling is that this "life guard" should have been supervising the swimmers and I think was already "watching" this woman. Otherwise, he would not have even noticed.
That's just creepy!
I would not mind my children seeing boobs hanging out (as you put it) if the mother is in the process of nursing. They would be told that the baby is hungry and getting ready to eat. Plain and simple.
