Update of sorts

I went to the PD office. That was aggravating trying to find it. The internet ".gov" site said one place. I went there and they said another place. I went to that place and they said yet another place. I went to the third place and they were able to tell me where it is.
.
Anyway, I go there and told them "Yesterday, I was at court and (filled in the details) and since I am new to this and have no clue what I am doing I need to know what the next step is and who my PD is going to be." She looked everything up, saw that I had not been assigned anyone yet, printed out a sheet, went to the back, got a name, and told me when he would be in. So, since appointments are not made (for some reason) I will be there Friday.
.
About Henry: While he is doing better, he is still sick. We re homed both donkeys and made sure that the new owners knew the full history from them being rescues to Henry being very sick. We gave them vet names, the name of our farrier, our info, etc. The vet that came out on the emergency visit the other day called. The new owner called her to get medical information on Henry and the vet needed our permission to pass that information along.
.
I have made two sheet cakes and some cupcakes for Saturday. I have two more sheet cakes and lots more cupcakes to make. Chocolate whole wheat. And it is delicious. Yes, I had a cupcake. Hey, I have to make sure everything is perfect for the bride-to-be. Right? Right?
.
We are cleaning and packing and trying to get as much stuff done before heading to Arkansas. We are basically going to be camping while we build the house. Between the abandoned camper/trailer on the property, the camper that the other family has who is joining us on this adventure, etc, there will be plenty of places to eat, sleep, and cook. The Wonder Washer will work for our laundry. The wood burning stove is already down there for heating water along with one of my 40 quart stock pots. (By the way, did I mention that this is 80 acres of wooded land?)
.
So, we are making sure we are prepared for everything possible.
.
As we build the house using raw material on the property (lots of cedar and lots of flat rock) we are keeping in mind friends of ours and their children who will come for week long vacations in the years to come. One friend has a child who has low functioning autism along with a couple of other issues. Another friend with children has a child who was born a micro preemie and as a result has compromised lungs. Plus, we are building with the possibility of future children in mind. (Not us, but the other family having more children.) So, safety of a wide range of children will be in mind as we build.
.
The type of house we are going to build is an earth house and while not the exact same plans as the link, it is the same basic idea. Using what God has provided naturally and building from there. This is really exciting for us. The wood and flat rock will be used to build most of the house. The rest, we will see how is goes.
.
Having another family with us means several things.
  1. We are not alone in this.
  2. We have more able-bodied people who also happen to have the same dream.
  3. We can lean on each other when we get tired and worn down. (Make no mistake. This is going to be HARD WORK.)
  4. If we truly are nuts, we are now a bunch of mixed nut. he-heh.

.

The children have been impatient about planting. They keep pestering me to plant vegetables. Bethany said she's worried we won't have food in the winter if we don't plant. I gave her a big hug and told her that we won't be planting here, but we will plant in Arkansas as soon as we clear some trees so some sun can come through. I also assured her that even if we didn't plant enough food for us to last the year, that I will always make sure she can eat.

.

I have some children that are getting into mischief, so I must go.

I hope you're able (and willing) to continue blogging as you embark on your new journey. It sounds fascinating. I'm vaguely jealous.

Me, too, Kim. I hope we will still hear updates from All Things Hoppes, especially with this news. Be glad to pass along my mailing address if necessary.

I know your new endeavor will be hard work, but dang what an adventure for all of you. I have no delusions of what's ahead of you and will wish you all nothing but the best.

I have a thousand questions, none of which are any of my business. :) All of which have to do with the mechanics of making this happen.

Oh, and as for blogging, on some parts of the property (where we will be building the home) there is cellular connection, so I am assuming that the wireless stick will work. Where we have camp, there is no connection. But, if I walk up the hill about 500 feet, I have some phone connection.
